Join us for a lecture by Professor Fida Adely from Georgetown University on the rise of female labor migration in the Hashemite Kingdom.
In the past decade or so, young university-educated women have begun migrating to Amman from Jordan’s governorates (muhafidhat), where work opportunities are limited, if not completely absent. In her talk, Dr. Adely will discuss her ethnographic research among such women, their motivations for migration, and their experiences as young single professionals in Amman, situating these within changes to Jordan’s economy, labor market, and marriage and family patterns. She concludes with a consideration of its long-term effects on the Kingdom.
